Pierre is a PhD candidate at the University of Stavanger (UiS), working with the red seaweed Palmaria palmata (dulse). His work focuses on the reproduction, growth and nutritional qualities of dulse to develop sustainable aquaculture for human consumption, within Nordic consortium Sølstain.
Pierre holds an MSc in marine biological resources from Ghent University (Belgium) and researched transgenerational plasticity in kelps for his thesis. With a background in seaweed ecophysiology and an interest in molecular biology, he uses transcriptomics and proteomics to better understand the drivers and mechanisms affecting dulse’s life cycle and explore its aquaculture potential.
