Elia is a PhD candidate at the University of Turku, Finland. His research focuses on developing a sustainable, solar-driven platform for the production of butanol, a versatile drop-in biofuel and chemical feedstock. By immobilizing genetically engineered Synechocystis in advanced biopolymeric matrices such as cellulose nanofibers, I aim to design robust solid-state photobioreactors that directly convert CO₂ and sunlight into liquid fuels. This work addresses critical bottlenecks in photosynthetic bioproduction and contributes to the transition toward carbon-neutral energy systems.
