Maaike is a paleoecologist and paleoclimatologist. She studies pollen, spores and microfossils from sediments collected in lake and bog environments. Combining these records with sedimentological proxies and a good chronology provides information on interactions between the vegetation, landscape, and climate. Currently, she is working on islands sites in the sub-Antarctic.
