Lukas completed his BSc in Biology at the University of Bayreuth, followed by a position as a student assistant at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, where he worked on plant determination and environmental monitoring as part of a large-scale floodplain restoration project near Leipzig. He then moved to Copenhagen to pursue an MSc in Nature Management. Throughout his studies, he gained hands-on experience applying plant ecological methods across a range of ecosystems.
Lukas is now based in Trondheim, where he is enjoying a mixture of field- and computer work. His research interest is in understanding the effects of anthropogenic and climatic stressors on natural and semi-natural ecosystems, with the goal of informing strategies that protect global biodiversity. For his PhD project, Lukas focus on the impacts of onshore wind energy on vegetation, soil, and hydrology in Norwegian ecosystems; and how to use that knowledge to push mitigation and ecosystem restoration.
