Sofie is a PhD student at the University of South-Eastern Norway. In her PhD project she investigates the equine gut microbiome using high-throughput DNA metabarcoding of faecal samples. The overarching goal is to strengthen methodological approaches for microbial profiling in horses, and to apply these methods to study the development and temporal dynamics of gut microbiota in different equine populations. The project comprises three interlinked studies: one focused on methodological optimization using samples from horses in Norway, and two longitudinal studies involving Lipizzaner horses from the Spanish Riding School in Austria.
